The Parish of Bright Bishop's Walk for AIDS took place on September 24th in Fredericton. The damp weather didn't dampen the spirits of the participants. Walkers went from the Northside, across the trainbridge, to the Cathedral for a short refreshment break and back again. $300.00 was given in donations.

The Parish of Hampton

Saint Paul's Hampton did not allow their spirits to be dampened by therainstorm that washed out their efforts for the June town walk in support of the Bishop's Walk Campaign for Aids Africa.We held unto our pledges and stored the banners the children had made and onSeptember24th we held a "walk to church" Sunday. Although the morning was overcastour congregation responded with zeal and showed up in all manner of ways.

They walked, biked, ran and rode in strollers to church that Sunday andclocked in over 220 km. People who chose not to enjoy the exercise supportedothers. Our church yard and building were festooned with the children'sbanners and each family reported their distances as they arrived.Rev. leoMartin led the way hiking over the rise to be in time for early service andRev. Wally Collett and Dave Price biked all the way from Quispamsis to honorpledges over $1000.00. Our final tally was a $2162.00 to be sent toFredericton and the true joy of working together to help others in need.

On Saturday morning, Sept. 9, 13 people from the Parish of Andover participated in a walk-a-thon and raised $1,049.35 for the Bishop's Walk for AIDS Relief in Africa. Following the walk, a delicious barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and desserts was served at the Church Hall. Both the young and not-so-young walked the Andover Elementary School track to raise money for this worthy cause and had an enjoyable time of fellowship. Previously, Trinity Sunday School class forwarded $143.00 for Aids Relief in Africa, which brings the Parish's total to $1,192.35.

It seems every parish in the diocese has participated in some way in Bishop's Walk for Aids Africa. We here in this parish are very concerned about the Aids situation and we salute our Bishop for initiating this effort. At Good Shepherd we staged a ham & scallop dinner as a fund raiser and raised close to $1000. Attached is a picture of Rev. Chris McMullen and his team of cooks & servers, Left to right: Rev. Parishes of Riverview and St James, Moncton

Join The Bishop’s Walk in Support of AIDS Relief

On Sunday, September 24, groups from St. John the Baptist, Riverview and St James, Moncton, joined SIDA/AIDS Moncton and others on a 5 km walk through Moncton Downtown, escorted by police. The Anglican walkers sported red and white – the PWRDF campaign colours, including red ‘rubber band’ bracelets. The walk was launched by the NB Lieutenant Governor, Hermenegilde Chiasson and followed by a Bar B Q.

The Parish of St James supported the walk with a special contribution envelope. There has also been a big coin jar in the church entrance for the past few months. Proceeds from the sale of a DVD commemorating the church’s 50th anniversary have been donated to the Bishop’s Walk. The total is not official yet, but is $500+.

St. John the Baptist parishioners also supported the walk through a special envelope. The Youth Group had a bottle drive and raised over $300. The children took Mite boxes home to fill with coins. Contributions came from all directions. The grand total was $2500!

The Anglican Parish of Bright Bishop's Walk for AIDS will take place on Sunday, September 24th in Fredericton. Walkers will start at 2:15 pm from the Northside Green and proceed across the train bridge walking trail to the Southside Green. After a refreshment break, walkers will return to the Northside Green. The Deanery of Woodstock gathered on Sat., Sept. 16th for a walk of approximately 7km. Most parishes in the Deanery were represented by the 26 people who met at Christ Church, Lower Woodstock for Morning Prayer. The group then set out, and walked (there was a stroller and a wagon involved as well) to St. Luke's, in Woodstock, where they had a service of Holy Eucharist. It was a great day for a walk!

Here in the Parish of Upham, we had an African lunch after church last Sunday. We invited our neighbouring Baptist congregation to the lunch, and asked for freewill donations, with the proceeds being split between our Bishop's Fund and the Baptists' fund to send 3 members of their congregation on a short-term mission trip to work in an orphanage in Nairobi. We had a lovely time enjoying fellowship with our Baptist friends, eating delicious African food, and raised over $400, to help both the Anglican and Baptist funds for Africa.

Wide support for Bishop’s Walk

Children attending Vacation Bible Camp in the Parish of Prince William raised money for the Bishop's Walk to fight AIDS. In a newsy letter to him (seen here) they said they made a line of coins twice as long as their church and they hope the money can help sick kids in Africa.

These children could well have been inspired by their rector, the Rev. Elaine Hamilton. and theological intern Jen Bourque who walked from St. John's Church in Nackawic to St. Luke's Church in Temperance Vale. They also distributed red ribbons in support of the AIDS cure and asked parishioners for donations.

To date, $1,073.53 has been raised by the Parish of Prince William for this worthy cause.

Octogenarians in the Parish of Kingston inspired lots of younger people to take up the cause. Heather Carr, national president of the ACW, walks five km each day with the financial support of many individuals in her parish and from around the diocese.

The people of Holy Trinity in Nasonworth (Parish of New Maryland) walked along the beautiful St. John River in Fredericton on Father’s Day. We raised $950.

On June 25, the people of the Parish of Hammond River walked 2.5 km from their church to the Nauwigewauk Hall following the 11 a.m. service. They raised money, enjoyed lunch, low-fat smoothies and a health fair too.

The people of the Parish of Nerepis and the St. John spread their walking out over the summer in an attempt to walk the 163 km circumference of their parish.

The people of Saint George's, Bathurst, supported the Bishop's Walk for HIV-AIDS on New Brunswick Day, August 7. Participants had a choice of a short or long walk and everyone enjoyed an end-of-walk barbecue at the church.

People in the Parish of Chatham gathered at the high school track and field venue on Aug. 26. They gathered pledges in advance for their walk, which was part of a parish family fun day with a barbecue and other refreshments. All the proceeds went to the Bishop’s Walk.

Bishop Miller is on track to symbolically walk the 500 km width of our diocese to raise $50,000 to fight the AIDS epidemic, especially in Africa. The money will be presented to Primate’s World Relief and Development officials when they gather in Fredericton for a regional meeting on Oct. 13 and 14.

The Parish of Marysville & Durham Bridge will have a walk on Saturday, August 26. There are several distances and Kenneth Reid, who is in his eighties, has challenged all the young ones to outwalk him. While the folks are walking the Rector will run from St. Peter’s Church, Durham Bridge to All Saints, Marysville, a distance of 21KM. To date the Rector has raised $450 dollars and has challenged the Parish to match that. A breakfast will follow the event.

Todate the Parish has raised an incredible $3,050.55 through pledges, donations, yard & bake sales and collecting loose change which has yet to be counted. In the picture above we have the oldest and youngest participants - Kenneth Reid and Hally Banks - who both walked in support of AIDS Relief.

Alma Currie’s pledge to walk 100 miles inspired her friend Edna Hamilton to join in the battle against AIDS too. Although walking was once a passion, she can’t do much of it any more, so she signed-on as Alma’s manager and will co-ordinate the funds.

National ACW President Heather Carr of Stanley joined the Bishop's Walk in support of AIDS relief on May 8. She walks 5 km/ day with the financial support of many individuals in her parish and from around the diocese.

The Parish of Coldbrook -St. Mary are planning to hold a walk for AIDS on Saturday, Sept. 30th.

The Parish of Minto and Chipman has planned 2 fund raisers. The Sunday School Children have raised $(I'm not sure of the amount - it's more than 300 but less than 500) in a Sunday Walk (they walked during the service) and each parishioner has received a film canister and has been encouraged to fill it with either Loonies or Toonies in support of Aids Relief. This is in thanksgiving of 160 years faithful worship. The canisters will be received at the special 160th Anniversary Service on September 29.

St. John's Anglican and St. Paul's United here in Edmundston are also doing our part to support the Bishop's walk. Some background info for you, We are two small churches that are in the process of 'blending'. I use that word rather than merging! The United Church has closed their building, all services are held in the Anglican Church.

The two churches are sponsoring me, as I pledged to walk 250 miles ( I don't know Kilometers) over the summer. I'm almost half way there! Also, the young people will walk 20 miles over the summer. Other parishioners are also walking. Everyone is keeping a journel of their milage. At the beginning of Sept., all journals will be collected.I will bring 2 checks, one from each treasury, along with the journals to the Deanery walk in Sept.

I have figured out a way to support Bishop Miller's walk. Barbara Neilson and I plant the flowers that line the walk to our church. We have asked members of the parish to sponsor our weeding of the flower beds in support of the AIDS walk. It helps to motivate us for sure and keeps the issue in people's minds a little more. See you in the fall

At St Peter's, Fredericton, our Sunday School are/ have been saving their pennies all summer long for this cause. On Sept 24 they will do a short walk (kids as young as 3) on the city trail just behind the hall.

On Oct 1 - our WELCOME Sunday, adults will walk as part of our post-service activities and also they have been challenged to place $10.00 per month over the summer aside for this cause and place it in "Mission Outreach" envelopes. There has been response. We will not know our full numbers until after the week of Oct 1 but before the big service.

The Parish of New Bandon is having its Bishop's Walk for AIDS this Sunday, September 17th. We will be walking along the NB Trail in Pokeshaw and finish at a parishioner's home for corn, mussels, and BBQ hotdogs.
